    Dale

It has been a rough road the last 18 or so months here. But seems we back on track for another trip in January 2012 or May/June 2012.

I see you have not added any hotel information for Calbayog as yet.

    Take care

    Hi Admin Dale,

I joined this blog site as it appears you live in Calbayog. I’ve recently partnered a local lass whose family live 10 minutes or so from the airport (in the opposite direction to the town). I went to Calbayog for 3 days recently (from where I currently live – Manila – and funnily enough literally around the corner from the Swagman which you appear to enjoy staying at) to meet her. I am not too far away from retiring and, given this relationship is still going strong when I do, I hope to retire to Calbayog or nearby.

In the meantime I would like to develop some type of business venture in the area that will help me to continue to give similar support to my lady and her extended family (as I do now) when I do retire as well as to get to know local expats (before I arrive to stay permanently) in the area. Perhaps even form a ‘Calbayog Expats Club’ for mutual advice and the opportunity to socialize with others of similar background to me [viz. WASP, ex-Regular Army].

Also, is there a site that specialises in business opportunities in the Calbayog region or someone in the ‘local know’ that could let me know when any good deals (I know – an oxymoron in the PI, but I live in hope) come on the market?

    Regards,
    Jon.

      Hello Jon,

I am sorry for the late reply, as I am not currently in the Philippines. I had to return to the US, to seek gainful employment.

How is your business prospecting going? Starting businesses in the Philippines can be done successfully, though it is not easy. One of the more successful ones that I have heard about is a water filtration plant. Basically you filter the water, and put it into the customer’s container for a fee. In addition to the filtration plant, you also need a trike to deliver the water containers to customers. The key is to find a location that will be visible, yet does not already have too much competition.

If you want to form a ‘Calbayog Expats Club’ let me know. I might be able to get you some members.

If you need hotel information for Calbayog, the only really good place is here: http://texaninthephilippines.com – it’s could be in the middle of an upgrade and you’ll be unable to get to it right now, but it’s the only place I know of that has the information. I should know, it’s my site and I got the information myself.

      Hello Randy,

I am sorry for my late reply.

I am not doing much updates on this blog right now, as I am currently working in the US.

If you live in the Philippines, or just visit there, and would like to write an article for this blog, please let me know.

Actually Dale, I am in the process of locating to Calbayog and have been writing for http://retiredinsamar.com We should be on the ground there sometime in July (or earlier). Just wanted to know if you were actively living there and if everthing was okay. Thanks for responding.
