Samar Floods

Northern Samar has now been declared in a State of Calamity, due to heavy flooding, earlier this month. According to an ABS-CBN News Article, dated Jan. 25, 2009, 10 peole died, and 114,836 individuals were displaced.

Wow, I knew we had a lot of rain, but I didn’t know it was that bad. I have not heard of any serious problems here, in Calbayogo. In December, we had a little bit of problem with our toilets not flushing, because the septic tank was full of water, but thats all. By the way, if you need to use a restroom in Calbayog, Jollibee and Chow King are probably your best choices, though even these are not always clean. At Jollibee, try to use the one on the first floor, as the ones upstairs don’t flush very well.

Ok, back to flooding. December was also a bad month for flooding in Northern and Eastern Samar. According to a Calbayognews.com report of Dec. 10, 2008, 40,000 were affected, and 6 died.

Again, not much problems for Samar Province, though I did hear some of the roads were flooded.
